Women

Set yourselves under

1 Peter 3:1-2

In the same way, you wives must accept the authority of your husbands. Then, even if some refuse to obey the Good News, your godly lives will speak to them without any words. They will be won over 2 by observing your respectful and pure lives.

  • In the same way – we all have to do our part
  • For your protection
    • Get behind him . . .
    • Let him lead . . .
    • He is responsible . . .
    • Careful who you choose . . .
  • For his salvation
    • Seeing is always better than hearing . . .
    • They would be won over . . .
    • By the way you live with respect and purity (the good way that you live)

Be truly beautiful

1 Peter 3:3-5

Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. 4 Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and peaceful spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight. 5 This is how the holy women of old made themselves beautiful. They trusted God and accepted the authority of their husbands.

  • Packaging vs. the product
    • Have the right focus . . . being beautiful is not a bad desire . . .
    • Not the outward adornment but the inward adornment . . .
    • This is unfading beauty . . . pretty vs. beautiful . . .
  • Attention of God vs. the attention of men
    • Gentle . . . and peaceful spirit . . . .
    • Which is of great worth in God’s sight
    • Women of old made themselves beautiful . . .
      • Trusted God . . . they were praying . . . appealed to God’s authority
      • Accepted authority . . .
        • Not talking about sin and abusive behavior . . . .

Do what is right

1 Peter 3:6

For instance, Sarah obeyed her husband, Abraham, and called him her master. You are her daughters if you do what is right and do not give way to fear.

  • She was under authority . . . follow his lead
  • Why Sarah . . . ?
    • you are her daughters
    • She received a promise from God
  • If you do what is right . . .
  • And do not give way to fear . . .

Men

Live with understanding

1 Peter 3:7a

In the same way, you husbands live with your wives in an understanding way

  • In the same way . . .
  • Live with your wives . . . if you don’t you won’t . . .
  • In an understanding way . . .
    • Men – we are the ones who are responsible to understand her . . .
      • She can be understood . . .
    • News flash . . . men are not like women . . .
    • Don’t try to make your wife a man . . .

Treat her with honor

1 Peter 3:7b

showing honor to the woman as the weaker vessel, since they are heirs with you of the grace of life

  • Weaker vessel . . . . more delicate – like a wine glass . . .
  • Show her honor . . . . this is our calling and responsibility . . .
  • Heirs with you of the gracious gift of life
    • She is no less than you . . .

Connect in prayer

1 Peter 3:7c

so that your prayers may not be hindered.

  • So that nothing will hinder your prayers . . .
    • Lose your connection and provision and protection and guidance and favor
  • Praying for her
  • Prayer with her

Conclusion

  • Women – do your part . . .
  • Men – do your part . . .
  • Great marriage . . . that is a great place for children to be raised . . .
  • Prayer people . . . meet with me / prayer for salvation . . . you can’t live this way on your own
  • Pray – and for mother’s day
